On May 25th, 2012, Center for Earthquake Engineering Simulations at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hosted a tour of the Centrifuge Lab for 15 students. The students, members of the Bethlehem Middle School club Girls Tech Connection, spent a couple of hours with Dr. Inthuorn Sasanakul touring the centrifuge, learning about the equipment and listening to a quick presentation that highlights the CEES Center and civil engineering.
The Bethlehem program was organized by Amy Ludik, a middle school technology teacher and adviser of a club for girls called the Girls Tech Connection. The club’s main purpose is to encourage girls to pursue STEM careers. Ms. Ludik brought fifteen girls and three mothers for the tour on a day the students did not have school.
